wave vs. shore

Jano Pavlík, Rudo Prekop, Vasil Stanko, Tono Stano, Martin Štrba, Miro Švolík, Kamil Varga, Peter Župník. An exceptional generation of Slovak photographers who met each other at Prague's FAMU in the early 1980s and soon began to introduce energy, playfulness and unbridled imagination to art photography, which in their works stemmed mostly from methods of stage-managed photography. Their monumental collective oeuvre continues to infl uence photography in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia until the present day. In his directorial debut, Martin Štrba visits and interviews his buddies and artistic contemporaries, reconstructing the spirit of the period that generated the phenomenon called Slovak New Wave. It is always rare and exceptional when creative energy begins to accumulate and multiply at the same place in the same time, between people who share similar values and worldviews.
