General Andrej Vlasov is still one of the most controversial characters of World War II, despite the fact that his execution took place more than half a century ago. As a Soviet commander in the Red Army, he collaborated with Nazi Germany to stop the spread of Stalin's dictatorship. For Czechs, his name is connected mostly with the help that Vlasov's army provided during the Prague uprising, even though their actions were never fully appreciated. Mapping the circumstances of this controversial event was complicated by the lack of reliable documentation, and accessible sources were affected by post-war political developments that led to censorship. The documentary Vlasov's Army is the first Czech attempt at an objective insight into this ambivalent case in European history, connected to the last days of Vlasov's army. The reconstruction is supported by as yet unpublished documents and testimonies, and graphic illustrations. A small amount of the preserved footage is accompanied by staged scenes, put together according to verified descriptions from local chronicles and accounts of eyewitnesses. (Academia Film Olomouc)
