Daniel Alfredson set out to make a Nordic thriller in America, and despite an interesting cast, it just didn't work out. The Nordic approach is evident in its focus on the characters and the slow pace, while the American style is evident in the way it tries to be accessible to the audience at times. In the end, it's a hybrid that tries to appear more interesting than it really is.
