It's hard making a living, and for downtrodden cosmetics salesman John Cummings (Richard Todd), it gets even harder when his brand-new car is pinched. You know those initially unremarkable films that are first good, then very good, and then become absolutely great? This is one of them. In Never Let Go, it's simmering from the very beginning, the story combines a classic western plot about a stolen horse (Ford) with a thick noir atmosphere, the erratically evil Peter Sellers lets loose with terror and succeeds, the proverbial clouds are gathering and the proverbial storm is approaching, and it's probably going to be a big one. And it is. The last ten minutes, that's what I call tension escalated to the maximum! Guillermin's direction, Barry's music and the crazy looks of two men determined to do everything... A great experience, for which I add the fifth star.
