Recently widowed Ward comes back to his home village in the Netherlands after years of travelling. His grieving silence and detachment from the world is broken by an absurd situation when Doru, a Romanian worker whom he employed, suddenly disappears and leaves his young son behind. Ward decides to take care of the boy and accompany him to Romania to find his mother, Alina. However, she is dealing with a difficult situation involving work and her distant husband in her own way.
