A lot of people ponder what happens to us when we die. For lonely video editor, Miles, though, the uncertainty has become an obsession. He spends his days terrified of everything around him. He's afraid to drive, and his only friend seems to be his mother. His neuroses certainly aren't helping him in the romance department either. After his aunt's death, Miles uses the money she left him to place an ad in the local paper. It offers a $30,000 reward for anyone who can prove the existence of an afterlife. He receives a flood of responses, mostly from wackos and people desperate for a buck. However, a few promising leads are mixed in with the fakes. Miles, along with his skeptical mother, meet with each of them, initially spurring disappointment. But, just when they're about to quit, they stumble onto something that makes them wish they'd never started the journey in the first place. WE GO ON switches between psychological thriller and horror film, borrowing the best elements from each genre. It's smart and substantive - and also just plain scary. English We Go On doesn't really try to build atmosphere, but instead it tries to somehow build up the action, which leads to Miles seeing more and more strange things, where he can hardly distinguish between what is and is not reality. Maybe he really did connect to the world after death, but it's not presented in a way that should derail you emotionally in any way - it's not scary, or nostalgic, or sad, or bland. ()
