English The German language version is not a copy. In the case of the movie Mary, it was a common practice of the time, typical of the first decade after the emergence of sound film. Ways were sought to deal with the new situation, which later resulted in dubbing. However, in the early 1930s, Alfred Hitchcock naturally responded to the demand of the time and returned to his roots, as he began in Weimar with the best filmmakers of the 1920s and thus repaid a figurative debt. Alfred Abel is just as charming in the lead role as Herbert Marshall, while Olga Tschechowa represents a slightly different character type than Norah Baring in the English version. It's excellent for comparison. I would be happy if anyone, whether Germans or someone else, filmed a sequel using the book "Re-enter Sir John" (1932). Unfortunately, this did not happen, and today both novels would have to be taken again from the beginning. ()
