A Midsummer Night's Dream

I've never loved Shakespeare’s works, but of course, the inspiration derived from his works is lavish, which I respect. That is why, for example, one can watch this playful variation of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (the play was completed in 1596), which is transplanted to Tuscany at the end of the 19th century. Love for the theater of the belle époque can be felt here, as well as the magical world of Queen Titania. The cast is divine. I love the combination of Michelle Pfeiffer (the over-the-top queen) Calista Flockhart (foolishly in love) and Anna Friel (worthily fighting for love). I would never have expected to see Christian Bale or Stanley Tucci here, but the one who was the ideal face of the classics at the turn of the 90s is of course Rupert Everett. If you passionately follow everything that is kissed by the divine William, then this is an obvious choice. If your relationship with the immortal playwright is more lukewarm, then even you won't be bored. This Midsummer Night's Dream is a joy for all the senses. (05/22/2018)
