Tamás, on leave from the front line, and Mária, a red-cross nurse, spend an unforgettable night together in the aftermath of Tamás's disappointment at the unfaithfulness of his fiancée. The following day Tamás is on his way back to the front line. Mária soon learns that Tamás has been killed in action. Shocked by the news, she has to be taken to hospital. The head-surgeon of the hospital, who has been in love with her for quite some time now, tries to comfort her and asks her out. Mária spots her love, the man she thought was dead, but the man reacts by turning her down rudely. The woman, dumbfounded, walks out of the night-club. Turning back from the cloakroom, she notices Tamás's crutches. The young man spread the rumour that he had been killed in action because he did not want Mária's life to be affected by having to stick by an invalid man. The woman's love is, however, much stronger than Tamás's will, and she decides not to leave him. (official distributor synopsis)
