The young land-owner, Marjánszky Mihály tills the soil in Pálfa. He is only interested in his land and remains a bachelor. Later, however, he would marry Borcsányi Erzsi with a rich dowry, although he does not know her personally. On his way to make his marriage proposal he finds himself at a wedding, where he meets a girl, presumably a peasant. Later it turns out that she is the girl he has chosen. From his behaviour Erzsi thinks he is a highwayman. Her belief is only affirmed when Mihály gets involved in a theft. He is innocent, but the Borcsányis turn out to be poor. Finally financial problems are solved through the Majánszky family and Mihály and Erzsi get married. (official distributor synopsis)
