Regéczy Mihály, the young landowner finds a young girl in his castle when he returns from his travels abroad. It turns out that his aunt, Ilka, took tenants Mayer Lippay Miklós and his daughter, Lilian, to his estate. The aunt, to compel the young man to work, tells him that all which is left of his wealth is the four-in-hand. Although Mihály learns the truth from the old bailiff, he complies with the wish of his aunt and starts working as a bailiff at the Mayers, as he likes the girl. Apparently Lilian is not neutral to him either, but she commits everything to annoy him. Aunt Ilka and Lilian's father decide to divide the property between the young people. Mihály and Lilian do not agree with the decision of the elders and wish to decide who the sole owner should be by means of a coach race. Although the winner is Mihály, all this is of no significance as the race provides an occasion for the young couple to declare their love to each other. (official distributor synopsis)
