On a rainy London night in 1946, novelist Maurice Bendrix has a chance meeting with Henry Miles, husband of his ex-mistress Sarah, who abruptly ended their affair two years before. And Bendrix's obsession with Sarah is rekindled... Julianne Moore was nominated for an Academy Award® for her performance in this adaptation of Graham Greene's novel by Oscar®-winning writer/director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game). In 1939 London, Sarah Miles (Moore), a passionate woman trapped in a sterile marriage, is attracted to brooding novelist Maurice Bendrix (Ralph Fiennes) when they meet at a party given by her worthy but dull husband, Henry (Stephen Rea). But their secret love affair is abruptly ended by Sarah after Bendrix's house is hit by a bomb during the London Blitz, and he is nearly killed. Two years later, a chance meeting with Henry rekindles Bendrix's obsession with Sarah. Haunted by memories, he re-enters her life, and learns the surprising reason behind their separation, a promise that Sarah will now find difficult to keep. (official distributor synopsis)

English As ponderous as Big Bertha, one of the biggest German cannons of the First World War. I had trouble watching the whole film. Not only sometimes, but almost the whole thing was quite dreamy and romantic. Maybe too much. More than I ever thought possible. ()
