English Jackals is another brutal variation of the sophisticated French film Them as well as the more straightforward American movie The Strangers. The idea to put a family member in the spotlight is intriguing, but it makes the work with the characters and their behavior more challenging. Which, given the director’s limited experience and a healthy dose of narrative stupidity, brings about Jackals’ ultimate downfall. [Sitges FF] ()

English A fairly well made home invasion movie with a relatively interesting and original foundation, but which gradually falls into classic and well known tropes, failing to build anything on top of it in the end. As a genre exercise, however, it is solid: it is tense where it needs to be tense, the characters behave tolerably, the growing tension between them is realistic, and Jackals does have a few things to cheer at. For the horror audience looking for sleek genre movie, it is recommendable. ()
