With remarkable access, and juggling multiple storylines and subjects, Min Sook Lee's journalistic doc, Tiger Spirit, offers a unique look at contemporary Korea. Following a man searching for the lost Korean tiger and families hoping for reunification, Min Sook goes beyond the usual narratives about this divided country and examines the consequences of war and closed borders. Shooting while six months pregnant, Min Sook also incorporates the growth of her own family into the film, challenging conventions when it comes to who gets to cover politically unstable regions. Tiger Spirit screens with two shorts that explore themes of propaganda and protest. (Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival)
