English If the message of First Action Hero was that the Czechs could also make a fully-fledged action movie (if they wanted to), it definitely did not work. In itself, it makes the whole action movie genre look like it is an inferior form of entertainment, bound by absurd rules, which the makers are trying to copy here, but then as they themselves admit, they cannot break free from the constrictions of parody, which more or less results in Czechs saying that they really do not know how to make a serious action movie. However, if audiences looked at this as undemanding nonsense without any sort of message, which uses the rules of the genre as a basis for its humor, everyone would be satisfied. There are some interesting ideas here like how to use the (un)realism of action films to spice up the storyline. However, First Action Hero definitely does not have higher ambitions in my view. I am quite curious how it will work when this is released into ordinary movie-theater distribution, because it seems like a really bizarre decision to me. [LFŠ 2019] ()
