Castlevania

Even though I couldn't imagine that a series based on a similarly titled video game could turn out to be any good, it must be said that the series is impressively gritty and the fact that it’s animated isn’t a bad thing. Actually, maybe it's a good thing. On the other hand, I didn't get the main character and found her quite clichéd. However, the fights are well-executed, as is the overall color spectrum. The first season of Castlevania was not a great success but rather just a taste of what was yet to come. The characters are introduced, their relationships are laid out, and unfortunately, you have to wait until the last episode for the big reveal to know what is actually going on. However, it is not until the second season that the show really gets going. And actually, you do not have to wait because it is out already! (09/14/2020)

The second season of Castlevania differs from the first in terms of being more of a roller coaster ride and is more engaging. It is also much more action-packed, features more interesting characters, and the main characters are all pretty good. However, there is a problem towards the end as the narrative really slows down and ends with a cliffhanger, which, I guess, was meant as a set-up for the follow-up season. (09/14/2020)

In my opinion, the third season of Castlevania is even better than the previous seasons. It certainly is not as action-packed as the second season, although there is still enough of that. It is also definitely more coherent and more complete than season one, which sets the audience up for the following seasons. It has hit its stride, and Warren Ellis knows exactly what he is doing. The American television show Castlevania has a strong British vibe due to the British actors providing the characters' voices. It also has a strong Japanese influence, thanks to the superb animation. This animated TV series is worth watching, and you are not going to get bored because of the especially good action scenes plus some great gory fight scenes. It really is good to see vampires portrayed as real badass guys again. (05/18/2021)
