My film window looking into works focused on alcohol-related themes is still not closed. This time, I've added this 80s film to my repertoire. This film can rely primarily on outstanding performances, with the caretaker Masák, played by Rudolf Hrušínský (as always... simply a great actor), taking center stage. But the rest of the ensemble competently supports him. I was a bit disappointed in the end that few scenes really cut to the core (only one moment truly stuck in my memory); this topic undoubtedly deserved a bolder film. However, it’s definitely not a waste of time. Filling in the gaps of Czech cinema from past eras is quite important for me as a reviewer. I give it 6.5/10. ()
An incredible film that surprised me with its strength and how well-directed it is. The scene where the main character Lexa, played by the excellent Milan Kňažko, arrives at Sonin's performance celebration is a beautifully absurd ending. Great acting performances where no one is trying to necessarily stand out, and even the acting legends act for the story. For me, this is further proof that it's worth following Czech productions. At least the older ones. ()
