The true story of two free spirits whose chance encounter leads them first to love, and then to the adventure of a lifetime. As the two avid sailors set out on a journey across the ocean, Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp couldn’t anticipate they would be sailing directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history. Adrift is a nice true story, but as a film, it has little to distinguish it, though it does have a small surprise in its sleeve. It is neither a smart sailing survival story (All is Lost) nor an interesting relationship drama in a survival environment (The Mountain Between Us). It’s just a Mills and Boon romance that Shailene, as the producer, had directed by Kormàkur, who has some experience with filming on the water. However, his unique creative touch with the depiction of human struggle with the natural elements is missing here.
