While The Informer was an action thriller, The Sorceror is a psychological thriller. Both films were directed by Karel Lamač and Martin Frič for Ondra-Lamač-Film based on popular stories by Edgar Wallace. The classic crime stories from Scotland Yard are actually just a parallel to Blackmailu, from which Ondráková brought experiences from England. Those German-Austrian films were connected by, among other things, the participation of Fritz Rasp and an overall gloomy atmosphere. For Frič and Jára Beneš, it was an exceptional experience, for Ondráková and Lamač a classic challenge, and for Otto Heller almost routine. The German-speaking area discovered Wallace in the 1920s, and local filmmakers loved him until the 1970s. In the post-war era, not only was The Mysterious Magician re-filmed, but also its sequel Again the Ringer. ()
