One day, forester Szymon sees a profesor and an officer walking in the woods with guns in their hands. Szymon is encourages by his wife to deal with this situation which suggests there is something wrong going on. However, Szymon is reluctant because of his bad experiences with people who think they are above the law. It was also the profesor due to whom Szymon had to move to a worse district and the same could happen again now. The difference of opinion between Szymon and his wife regarding Szymon's previous healty lack of submisson and nowadays tendency to take the path of least resistence is the basic ideological leitmotiv of the whole film.
