The longest civil war in Latin America could not end easily. After half a century of armed struggle and three failed peace processes, the Colombian FARCs, the oldest guerrilla army in the world, opened a dialog with the State, with the aim of surrendering their weapons and setting forth a transition to political life. It was a process that took more than six years, and included a Nobel Peace Prize as well as a controversial referendum and the key influence of Hugo Chávez. In a long series of conversations, the protagonists (from Juan Manuel Santos to the guerrilla leaders) tell journalist Natalia Orozco a history of the behind-the-scenes of the negotiations, which in spite of being the “official story”, is still a fascinating disclosure of the ideas, passions, prejudices and hidden decisions taken by the political strategists that accomplished the most anticipated peace in the region.
