English "10000 Years Later" is not a bad movie; it is just a very contradictory one. For example, on a certain level, the animation is quite nice; I liked some of the landscape shots as well as the way they portrayed some of the characters. However, the movements are occasionally choppy and jerky. In addition, there is also the typical Chinese animation trope they cannot avoid - dramatic slow-motion. As far as the narrative is concerned, on the one hand, it is full of originality, especially thanks to the rather elaborate setting (like the broccoli forests) and various really interesting ideas. On the other hand, you can see all sorts of influences from western blockbusters. These include Mortal Kombat (because Goro), Lord of the Rings (because The Siege of Minas Tirith), Alien (because you could not see another monster escaping from someone's mouth anywhere else), etc. This all detracts from the originality of the movie and also from the message. Then there is the ideological aspect. I consider it positive that the screenwriters omitted any laws about interspecies crossbreeding. Therefore, you can at least see a lot of "interesting crossbreeds",which would fill the erotic dreams of a many zoophiles. It all looks rather strange, even though it is all very interesting and original at the same time. Why? Because I know the Cockatrice from The Witcher, but I have only seen the "Cockadog" for the first time today. Plus, they have a wolf that looks like it was made by Voldemort from the first Harry Potter and that was another thing I had not seen before (and probably do not want to see again). Then there is also the Chinese ideology corresponding to the communist regime in this movie. Let us be honest, certain political ideals and tendentious ideas are going to have to be there, of course, since it is Chinese, and only a fool would not notice them, and some might even be bothered by them. Another aspect worth mentioning is the pacing, and to tell the truth, it is very good. There is almost always something going on, so the movie flies by, and it had no problem at all keeping my attention. As for the soundtrack, I would say it was a good combination of the different subject matters, of which I was most surprised by the classical music, even though that really suited the plot. So, to sum up - three reasons to watch this movie: 1) I like animals and not just platonically. 2) I want to see what a pretty epic animated fantasy movie produced by the Chinese would look like 3) I believe in communist values and know that evil comes allways from the west... I liked some of the scenes, fights, and ideas, others less so, and some I am just going to have to ignore and pretend I did not see or hear it - 6/10. ()
