Plots(1)

Suave, irresistible Joe (Bruce Willis) and his hypochondriac partner Terry (Billy Bob Thornton) have escaped from prison. Cutting a swath from Oregon through California, these fugitives rob banks in order to finance their scheme for a new and somewhat legitimate life south of the border, leaving a trail of terrified bankers, bad wigs - and an adoring public - in their wake. Unfortunately, things get more complicated when they meet Kate Wheeler (Cate Blanchett), an ordinary housewife sick of her boring life - who happens to run into Terry with her car. Kate joins the bandits on their cross-country spree, and eventually she steals something, too - their hearts. Both guys fall in love with Kate - and Kate falls for both of them. Joe and Terry are far from ideal on their own, but together they make up the perfect man... (official distributor synopsis)

English Barry Levinson attempts to bring the nostalgia of classic gangster movies into the contemporary world with the image of the characters, music, cars and props, but his effort is in vain. It’s as if the director is too conservative and the current period is too far removed for him to connect with nostalgia with any sense of detachment. The two lead actors don’t play “likable characters with minor flaws” but fools who don’t deserve the sympathies of the (again, amazing) Cate Blanchett. The humour and dialogue, which are supposed to play a big role here, are VERY weak and even the satirical undertones with the media coverage of events are half-baked. Given the creative team, Bandits is a disappointment. Only the aforementioned Cate Blanchett drags the film up to three stars. ()

English A take on Bonnie and Clyde, this time in a threesome. Willis doesn't surprise, but Bob Thornton as a sensitive hypochondriac and Cate Blanchett as the woman straddling the line between the two men are flawless. The final twist is not as breathtaking and some write here, but for the sake of my beloved Cate and Thornton, I'm going to get over myself and give it four stars. ()
