Lost in Space (2018)

English I'm writing my review after having seen only one season. Not even the ending, as widely open as Mrs. Merkel's arms to welcome refugees, could make me keep watching the adventures of the Robinson family. In order to become a colonist sent to Alfa Centauri, you obviously had to meet many demanding criteria, but logical thinking was just not one of them. The writing didn't really bother with logic or the laws of physics, among other things. Although it is a family series, it shouldn’t underestimate its audience (including the younger ones) so much. Not even Toby Stephens, who was the reason I started watching Lost in Space in the first place, managed to save the overall impression. ()

Season 1 (2018) (S01)

English I wasn’t impressed by the first season in any way. Very early on, it became clear that it would be a series whose each episode would present a problem which would be solved by the end of it. At first, I enjoyed the storyline with June ("Dr. Smith"), but even this part of the story got old pretty quickly and became quite irritating. I was really looking forward to the season being over so that I could watch something less strikingly obvious and predictable. ()

Impact (2018) (S01E01)

English What can I say? It's clear that I'm not the target audience for this show, which seems geared towards a younger or more naive crowd. I didn’t enjoy the pilot episode at all. It was freezing cold, but then they're casually operating on a leg outside, with no steam coming from the open wound or their breath. And of course, there's another deus ex machina moment. Judy’s presence in the Robinson family can only be explained by diversity quotas and Daddy Robinson’s frequent absences. ()

Diamonds in the Sky (2018) (S01E02)

English I managed to get over my initial disgust, so I could push through and give this episode one star. The show feels like a mix of the book "Swiss Family Robinson" (which I didn't enjoy) and the series The 100. The plot is mostly naive (read: stupid), but I did get a kick out of "Dr. Smith" and her hyena-like nature. After this episode, one thing has me really curious — where did the chicken come from? ()

Infestation (2018) (S01E03)

English The second star goes solely to the character of the sneaky June. Her perfect survival instincts managed to entertain me and distract from an otherwise absurd plot where one nonsense followed another. ()

The Robinsons Were Here (2018) (S01E04)

English Once again, I didn't find much to be happy about. Both expeditions had the potential for interesting action and suspense, but instead, I watched plants reacting to sound and a marital crisis being dissected over a bottle of wine. The melodramatic scene in the cave didn't do much for me either. The only parts that caught my attention were the revelation of Will's secret and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa's infiltration into the story. ()

Transmission (2018) (S01E05)

English Aha! So it wasn't John's military missions after all! My bad, I stand corrected. How could I ever doubt Mom Maureen? Shame on me! Not only did the creators explain Judy's background, but they also managed to deliver a pretty watchable and entertaining episode, despite still not being able to shake off those logical holes. ()

Eulogy (2018) (S01E06)

English I realized after the pilot that this show is mainly aimed at a very young audience. But such a predictable plot with “totally unexpected” last-minute rescues can only captivate viewers who still believe in Santa Claus. June is starting to get on my nerves, the new romantic subplot didn’t grab me, and I’m really curious how the robot managed to 3D print ammunition for that gun. Must be some impressive skills. ()

Pressurized (2018) (S01E07)

English Honestly, this episode wouldn’t be so bad if I wasn’t left with two nagging questions. First, why do John and Maureen act like complete idiots when it comes to the gun? There’s not a hint of suspicion towards June ("Dr. Smith"). Anyone could have taken it, right? Anyone who guessed that 11-year-old Will might have guns stashed under his bed. Second, how did the tunnel from the tar pit not collapse immediately after John cut it and released the internal pressure? Divine intervention, maybe? Plus, I’m no doctor, but I’ve heard that performing CPR with bent elbows isn’t exactly effective... ()

Trajectory (2018) (S01E08)

English I’m really trying not to be too harsh on this show, considering it’s meant to be a family-friendly series for more naive viewers. However, it bothers me that the writers didn’t put in a bit more effort to make everything less painfully predictable. It’s quite sad to see. ()

Resurrection (2018) (S01E09)

English The ninth episode was mostly crap - literally. The mining of coprolite with the possibility of getting some fresh samples was truly fascinating. However, any excitement I had from finally being entertained was quickly killed by new absurdities (an idiot with a radio in a cave and, seriously, why isn’t someone tied up after being defeated?). So, there’s that. ()

Danger, Will Robinson (2018) (S01E10)

English The final episode was one of the more watchable ones, although those last-minute miraculous rescues have been annoying me since the pilot. Still, I appreciated the recurring theme that humanity is a thieving bunch, reminding us that any aliens should keep a close watch on their probes if they abduct anyone for their usual invasive examinations. One odd detail caught my eye: when the ramp of Jupiter 2 opens in space, everyone risks being sucked out, but when it’s forced open, nothing happens. Why is that? Does the writer even know? ()
