English For a long time, Straw Hat by Macourek and Lipský eluded me, I could never seem to get around to watching it... Until today. And I have to say, it's absolutely brilliant! The story, which I know from the theatre as a kind of funny conversation piece in which a hysterical outburst appears here and there, has been turned into a tremendously crazy comedy with a first-class cast, a brilliantly written script full of situational and verbal humor, charmingly dead-end situations that the characters (especially Kopecký's Fadinard and Landovský's Lieutenant) keep getting themselves into, and a final multiple confrontation between anyone and everyone and anything, which really brought tears to my eyes. A one hundred percent film. ()

English A film that simply doesn't stop and goes from beginning to end. It's full of crazy ideas. Excellent adaptation of theater to film while having enough of both. The plot is quite banal, but the way they manage to reach a solution is truly inventive. Moreover, the array of Czech actors is definitely worth it, with Miloš Kopecký being the one who carries the film. ()
