English Buy Me a Gun is set in the Mexican countryside, where police do not exist and men are obliged to give their daughters and wives over to cartels. We see it from the perspective of a little girl that her dad tries to pass off as his son. This movie doesn’t need any visual or dialogue attractions or a powerful music score to tear you apart. It’s enough to simply show how things are done over there. And the few artsy elements it uses (like silhouettes of dead bodies after a shootout shown from a distance) perfectly balance its rawness and straightforwardness. A powerful movie worthy of festival awards. [Cannes] ()
