Antonio is a conservative family man who firmly believes in going by the rules, but destiny forces him to confront an unexpected situation that will shake him to the core. “You can’t always get what you want.” With gentle humor, this satirical drama tells the story of a father with one kidney who wants to give up something important so that he can buy a healthy second kidney from an asocial couple who are expecting a child (and do not have a roof over their heads). He wants to finally enjoy some steak with wine in his fifties. Animal has good subject matter and actors, but the filmmaking is rather understated, given what a ride this could have been. There is strong potential bubbling beneath the surface of the film. Maybe someday someone will create a more effective remake of this. [Sitges FF]
