Adaptation of Cherry Duyns's debut novel about the life of a boy who was born in 1944 as the son of a German-Dutch couple of artists. It is June 1988. Travelling to his relatives in Germany, the man on the train is confronted with soccer fans who are on their way to attend the match Holland-Germany in the European Soccer Championships. The revival of anti-German sentiments evokes memories of his childhood. De zondagsjongen is a film, larded with flashbacks, about loyalty, love, treason and liberation. (Nederlands Film Festival)
