Meet Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield) – an inexperienced, socially awkward high school student who lives with his mother, a sex therapist. Surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis is a reluctant expert on the subject. When his home life is revealed at school, Otis realizes that he can use his specialist knowledge to gain status. He teams up with Maeve, a whip-smart bad-girl, and together they set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their fellow students’ weird and wonderful problems. Through his analysis of teenage sexuality, Otis realises he may need some therapy of his own. (Netflix)

Reviews of this series by the user Necrotongue (19)

Sex Education (2019)

English I'm writing my review after only two seasons, as I have no desire to watch the third one. The first season was quite okay. I had a few issues with it, but no big deal. When watching the second season, I realized that the series was intended for a completely different target audience, which I respect and I'll stop watching it before I disappoint all those satisfied viewers by spoiling the average rating. 4*- ()

Season 1 (2019) (S01)

English Although the season was very poor in terms of humor at times, there were some really witty scenes, as well, and I really liked the more dramatic shades of the story. Which is to say I was actually quite satisfied, and I will definitely watch the next season. ()

Episode 1 (2019) (S01E01)

English From the very beginning, it was clear to me that I would have to be in the mood to watch this series so that I wouldn't ruin it with a low rating. But today turned out quite well for me, my mood was excellent, and even though the first episode seemed a bit uncertain to me, I decided to give it three stars. I added the fourth star for the British English, which, unlike the American one, seems much sexier to me. ()

Episode 2 (2019) (S01E02)

English This time, I stayed with four stars, even though the creators strongly disappointed me with collective vomiting. I would have expected these scenes more in some American, student comedy along with drinking beer upside down, but luckily the situation was saved by the grandmother from the Rapid Deployment Unit, it was a tough moment. Anyway, it was the last time I slightly added to the rating of the series, next time I will be tough. ()

Episode 3 (2019) (S01E03)

English Hmm, just when I was ready to harshly criticize the episode, the creators showed that they can really come up with a quality script. True, there wasn't as much humor (but what was there, was of higher quality), but I did witness some decent dramatic moments, where unnecessary pathos was avoided (even though the possibility was there). ()

Episode 4 (2019) (S01E04)

English After the previous, higher-quality episode, the fourth episode slipped back into average (actually slightly above average). I have a feeling that I would enjoy it more if the plot focused more on those almost therapeutic sessions and less on cheap jokes. But at least I found my favorite character, Lily is a demon! ()

Episode 5 (2019) (S01E05)

English I was disappointed by the fifth episode. Otis's best friend is gay, cool, I didn't mind. Otis advised lesbians, okay, why not. But now Jackson's mothers have been added, and the subsequent proud fight of women against injustice, and I realized that the plot was becoming too politically correct for me. I was hoping that the theme of the series would guarantee that it wouldn't be so conventional, but apparently, the courage was lacking for that. ()

Episode 6 (2019) (S01E06)

English The creators reminded me of my father, James Purefoy is, in my opinion, the best choice for this type of character. I will believe that bastard anytime and without any problems. However, overall, the episode did not exceed the average level, so I am giving only four stars for the duo of Remi Milburn and Lily Iglehart. 4*. ()

Episode 7 (2019) (S01E07)

English The seventh episode became one of the two best episodes for me in the first season. It didn't bring a excessive amount of infantile humor and managed to play on a serious note without depressing me with unnecessary pathos. I would just skip those church dances and songs, it was like at Prince Harry's wedding and I don't mean it as a compliment. ()

Episode 8 (2019) (S01E08)

English It was close, and the eighth episode would have ranked among the top three episodes of the series. But then strange things started to happen, another character appeared, confirming my suspicion that even though supposedly only 4% of people are homosexual in reality, in movies and series it's more like 40%. Moreover, the sweater return scene was so ridiculously cliché that I couldn't give it a higher rating. ()

Season 2 (2020) (S02)

English After the first season, I was generally satisfied. After the second one, it’s no longer the case. Sure, gays are obviously trending at the moment, but even if I dropped a hundred dollar bill in this town, I would rather leave it lying on the ground, there are more important things than money. I’m sure Aimee would understand me. I was also annoyed by the sometimes lame jokes, Ola and not enough Lily. ()

Episode 1 (2020) (S02E01)

English The episode left me feeling disappointed; once again, there was an abundance of juvenile humor. Even if the series is targeting a teenage audience, I'm uncertain whether these jokes would hit the mark. ()

Episode 2 (2020) (S02E02)

English The second episode brought a welcome improvement; the creators shifted their focus away from constant camping and delved deeper into the character development of Jean Milburn, whom I find quite compelling. Lily Iglehart also got more screen time, but it left me wanting more. I wish my favorite alien woman could have chimed in on the events more frequently. ()

Episode 3 (2020) (S02E03)

English Well, it looks like the creators have settled into their groove, even if it's not quite hitting the mark. The potential of the theme feels promising, but it's bogged down by immature humor. Maeve's character adds a dose of drama, though, so I'm curious to see where it goes from here. ()

Episode 4 (2020) (S02E04)

English The storyline saw a slight uptick, but nothing to warrant an extra star. As per tradition, the series ramps up the LGBTQ+ representation, but hey, to each their own. Call me superficial, but given the choice between Maeve and Ola, I'd pick Maeve without a second thought. Not to discount Ola's merits, but I've always been more drawn to women. ()

Episode 5 (2020) (S02E05)

English The storyline didn't quite hit the mark for me. Still, I have to hand it to James Purefoy; his performance rarely fails to impress. ()

Episode 6 (2020) (S02E06)

English I'm growing increasingly frustrated. Honestly, I couldn't even tell you the name of this town, but it's evident that there's no population boom in sight. The excessive political correctness, sometimes pushed to the point of absurdity, is losing my interest rapidly. With just two episodes remaining, I guess I'll have to tough it out... ()

Episode 7 (2020) (S02E07)

English I bumped up the rating a bit because looking for at least one thing the local girls' group had in common was hilarious. However, for it to earn a solid three stars, the dancing and singing in the church should have been omitted, and the lone atheist character shouldn't have been so politically correct in every aspect. 3*- ()

Episode 8 (2020) (S02E08)

English Lily's direction of Romeo and Juliet was an absolute standout - even for someone like me who isn't usually a fan of musicals. However, the rest of the episode was a bit of a letdown. The creators leaned heavily on clichés, with the bad guys experiencing sudden changes of heart, and the third season's big twist felt a bit too on the nose. ()
