The Act is a seasonal anthology series that tells startling, stranger-than-fiction true crime stories. The first season follows Gypsy Blanchard, a girl trying to escape the toxic relationship she has with her overprotective mother. Her quest for independence opens a Pandora's box of secrets, one that ultimately leads to murder. What if the person who claimed she loved you more than anything in the world was actually hurting you? That's what happened to Gypsy Rose Blanchard, a young woman from Missouri. As a child, she'd grown up believing that she was seriously ill with cancer, muscular dystrophy, epilepsy, and other conditions. Her mother Dee Dee Blanchard had dedicated her life to her care. But then Gypsy Rose discovered a shocking truth. She wasn't sick at all... (HBO Europe)

English A great interpretation of an absurd story from America. I almost think that a similar story couldn’t happen in any other place. Exploiting the system, cheating the neighbors, a psychological bomb where you just stare at the way some people are living. Add some great acting performances, excellent filmmaking craftand some scenes bordering on genius, which in eight episodes keep the quality high and truly entertain the viewer. Sometimes it is stretched a bit too much, but this show certainly occupies the top spot among psychological dramas. I am curious what the next season will bring, as The Act ought to present similar absurd cases of American justice in every season. The premise is good, let’s see where it moves from there. ()
