Replacements (E04)

In England, Easy's D-Day veterans heal their bodies and minds — and get acquainted with "green" replacements. The respite doesn't last long; in September the men learn they're being airlifted to Holland as part of Operation Market-Garden, a joint American-British offensive that aims at securing quick access to Germany and ending the war by Christmas. Unlike Normandy, the daytime parachute drop is executed smoothly, and the company is greeted as heroes as they enter the town of Eindhoven after minimal resistance. All that changes when the company marches to Nuenen, where Easy is met by a brutal attack that ends with Compton wounded, a retreat ordered, and "Bull" Randleman stranded in the town overnight. It's a sobering and bloody initiation to combat for the replacements. (Home Box Office)
