The village prepares to elect a village mayor. The mayor in force is nicknamed "mayor Sári" for village affairs have in truth been handled by his wife. It is for her again to pave the road for her husband, but the latter does not want to stay in power. He unites forces with his son, Jóska, and Lizi, the daughter of Pengő Kovács, the opponent candidate. The young people can only marry if Pengő is elected mayor. His plans succeed, the father of the girl is unanimously elected. As, however, after the election the son of the ex-mayor marries the daughter of the new mayor, the position stays within the family, and the ambitious woman is still able to interfere with the affairs of the village.
