We Intend to Cause Havoc

A documentary about WITCH (We Intend To Cause Havoc). They were Zambia’s most popular band in the 1970s, playing a mixture of psychedelic rock and African rhythms. Its lead singer was the charismatic Emmanuel “Jagari” Chanda, his nickname a reference to Mick Jagger. The film follows the story of the band, which broke up and was forgotten but has started performing again, and documents the life of Zambia’s former superstar. The African psychedelic band was rediscovered by Western fans, many of them born long after WITCH released their last album. In a new line-up that included some Western musicians, WITCH played at the Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia 2017, among other venues. (Warsaw Film Festival)
