See (2019)

English Another excellent series this year, which will no doubt be in this year's top 3. Apple TV hits right on the mark for me, serving up an imaginative post-apocalyptic world 600 years in the future, where humanity has lost its ability to see due to an epidemic and had to adapt and learn how to survive in these conditions. There are a lot of complains that the blind people in the show do things they couldn't really do, which is debatable because unless you are blind yourself you are not entitled to judge, secondly it is a series from the future, not a documentary based on real events, and thirdly in 600 years humanity will have definitely evolved, so the other senses work very differently than they do now. So much for the haters and now for the rest of us who love cinema and like to be entertained. See is a spectacularly filmed production (visually there hasn't been anything better looking since Game of Thrones) with an excellent Jason Momoa, who rose perhaps two levels in acting during the series, but the other characters are great too: Commander Tamacti Jun is perfect, the Tyrannical Queen who gets fawned over by servants while praying, the Bow Lion or the Shadow, who has the ability to move around in silence, and of course the two newborn children who are the only ones with the gift of sight. Every episode features at least one riveting action with unorthodox choreography, and violence is not spared. The series gradually doses surprising twists and turns, with danger lurking at almost every turn (slave traders selling people on the black market or the city of worms where workers make silk maze). At times the series is so suspenseful and gripping that I found myself in bed, sweating, tearing my hair out and breathing with great difficulty. The finale is surprising with a beautiful final fight (you wouldn’t want to fight Momoa blindly) and a nice lure for a second season. A fun, addictive and engrossing series like I never dreamed of. 9/10. ()

Season 2 (2021) (S02)

English The event of the year and the reason I watch movies and series. See is my new favourite and I knew from the first season that big things were going to happen and they did. This is the new successor to Game of Thrones, and in its last episode playfully beats the battles from all films and series. Dave Bautista, as the new bad guy, and Lee Hoon (Banshee, Warrior) are two strong additions to the cast. The return of Tamacti Jun is also a pleasure. The production design is breathtaking, I would love to make a picture of every single shot and hang it on the wall, technically it's just absolutely perfect and the artwork is unrivalled far and wide across worlds and universes. The palace intrigue and the betrayals are great too. The twists and turns and the backstabbing work on a similar level to GoT. But the absolute biggest draw is the action and the gore, they are something incredible; I was screaming with excitement in the first episode, what an insane carnage it is, and it all builds up to the spectacular epic finale, which is the best battle since Lord of the Rings. It has absolutely everything: great strategy and traps, perfect choreography, uncompromising R-rated action, a large number of enemies. It lasts about half an hour and I was downright gushing with delight. Seeing Baba Voss, Tamacti Jun and Bow Lion next to each other, was surreal, it's like pulling out a 100 lvl sprite from an RPG and sending them up against bots, Gorgeous. The whole thing culminates in a pumped-up duel between the two brothers, which escalates into an absolute emotional inferno that tore my soul into a thousand pieces. I'm absolutely thrilled, this whole thing has gone awfully well and I can't imagine what's going to happen in season 3 because the bar is already set pretty damn high. An absolute masterpiece, I can't fault anything. Story 4/5, Action 5/5, Humour 2/5, Violence 5/5, Fun 5/5 Music 4/5, Visuals 5/5, Atmosphere 5/5, Suspense 5/5, Emotion 5/5, Actors 5/5, 15/10. ()

Brothers and Sisters (2021) (S02E01)

English Insanely pumped up comeback. Wow I'm screaming to the heavens. Bugger me! My tongue out of my mouth somewhere in the garden. I screamed swear words for an hour. What an awesome experience. Momoa cuts and breaks again, so much that blood spurted slowly from the TV all the way to me! A dream come true. The new successor to GoT without question. I haven't seen anything better in series production since Warrior. ()

The Queen’s Speech (2021) (S02E07)

English Now that's what I call a pre-finale. Dethronement, and inspiring queen's speech and home invasion and assassination with a horror atmosphere. I don't think I'll survive the finale. ()

Rock-a-Bye (2021) (S02E08)

English The best shot R-rated battle since Lord of the Rings. An insane emotional carnage with a well thought out strategy, amazing visuals and a tough R-rated action... Beautiful. It leaves the whole of Game of Thrones biting the dust. ()

Season 3 (2022) (S03)

English Another big stage over. My favourite post-apocalyptic series See comes to an end, and, although the highlight is still season 2, I'm still satisfied. Personally, I would have preferred See to have at least six or eight seasons, there's definitely still potential in terms of expanding the world, exploring new tribes or kingdoms, but the creators decided to conclude it as a trilogy and season 3 suffers a bit from that, there's not much expanding or exploring, as they try to finish up lines from the past to give the series closure, and a lot of times I felt like they were repeating things that had already been done, but I didn't mind that much. The script has never been one of the show's strongest points, and we loyal fans love it for the other values that work flawlessly. One more criticism about season 3. I found it to be the most lacking in terms of gore, there's less of it than the first two seasons, which I don't really understand (did they fire the make up effects artists?), but it's still a binge watch as it should be. The characters, both the good and the bad, are the great – they are all cast perfectly and the new characters are always a delight. I liked Ranger's new partner Baby Vosse, the new villain Tormada and the new witchfinder Lucien (the Irish fighter from Warrior, he was really good). Queen Sibeth gave probably the performance of a lifetime and one of the most impressive female performances I've seen – the woman makes your stomach clench. The biggest badass is without a doubt Baba Voss again (Jason Momoa has stepped up a lot as an actor during the series) and he steals the finale for himself again. Seeing Momoa in stealth action and absolute rage mode, charging in alone with a katana amongst a group of enemies and dismembering them all in a graceful and raw fashion had me screaming with delight. Visually, it is again very decent, albeit too often in the dark at times. The action is again plentiful and filmed superbly (the fight choreography is very polished), and there was even a detour with the cannibals which I welcomed. The finale had balls, a proper battle, philosophizing and thick emotions, so I'm very satisfied and the creators handled it decently. 8/10 ()
