1988. Armin Glaser (Florian Stetter), first lieutenant in the Stasi, lives with his family in Karl-Marx-Stadt. When his daughter (Lena Urzendowsky) is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, he puts all his hopes in a new treatment at the local hospital. But soon inconsistencies in the therapy occur. The ward doctor (Corinna Harfouch) also acts deviously. Armin uses his contacts via his commanding officer (Jörg Schüttauf) to get hold of information. But the closer he gets to the truth, the less he can believe it. Based on actual events, the film examines a barely noted chapter of East-West German history: to get their hands on foreign currency, for years the GDR allowed West German pharma companies to try out new medication on patients at East German hospitals without their knowledge.
