Zhao Jie is Chinese and Rohmer is French. After meeting and becoming good friends in France, they now live in Beijing. One day, Rohmer gets into a car accident that kills a boy, and though not directly responsible, he feels extremely guilty about the incident. Depressed and looking for a way to escape his feelings, he runs off to Tibet. A month later, however, Zhao Jie hears news that Rohmer has unexpectedly passed away. It is now Zhao Jie who feels guilty, upset at himself for not taking better care of his friend. To make amends, he embarks on a journey to Tibet to retrieve Rohmer's remains and bring them back to France. When he gets there he meets Rohmer's ex-girlfriend and mother and together they reminisce about the past and Rohmer's life. Set in Tibet's snow-covered plateaus and in the south of France, Looking for Rohmer examines the perennial question of the meaning of life and death. (Busan International Film Festival)
