Rural England, early nineties: childhood friends Nathan and Terry are induced by the local sociopath to steal from the Huggins, an elderly doctor and his wife. Nathan's girlfriend, Mary, is totally against the plan, but a few hours later she finds herself in the stately home, beside the safe in the basement and a bunch of other individuals, each more suspicious than the next. The British movie The Owners is a great play in a small space where the viewer cannot be sure of anything, and anything could happen. I, for one, was expecting a monster to appear towards the end as the gates of hell might well have opened, and for a relatively small release, it has some great performances. That means this movie manages to be both extremely poignant and entertaining all the way through.

A likeable home invasion horror film that doesn't bring anything new to the genre and is a blatant rip-off of the better known Don't Breathe, but it has good craftsmanship. A group of friends break into an apartment to steal money, but the owners return unexpectedly early and soon the tables are turned, as the homeowners are psychopath senior citizens. It's suspenseful, nicely shot, unexpectedly gritty at times, and has a decent twist at the end. An inoffensive and watchable affair on a theme that never gets old. Story**, Action***, Humor>No, Violence***, Entertainment****, Music***, Visuals****, Atmosphere***, Suspense***. 6/10.
