In 1947, Lord Mountbatten assumes the post of last Viceroy, charged with handing India back to its people, living upstairs at the house which was the home of British rulers, whilst 500 Hindu, Muslim and Sikh servants lived downstairs. (20th Century Fox UK)

There are definitely films that deal better with India's independence, but you have to give this one credit when it comes to visuals. I quite approve of the use of period shots, but the connection with the actors doesn't quite work perfectly. The film comes across as a rather mediocre attempt at a good historical film.
