“A film for adults and a shocking journey into the secret world of children” is how Vogt’s second film as a writer-director is introduced. “Hidden from their parents’ attention four children develop their innocent play into something else - with magic and creepy things start happening.” A secret and magical world opens up when a group of children play away from the gaze of grown-ups. English A disturbing and original film with children from the cold North, or how horror with the X-men should look like. The screenwriter of Thelma delivers a slowburn social drama with a horror touch. A group of kids from a housing estate, mostly with some kind, discover hidden supernatural abilities (telepathy, telekinesis) and gradually start experimenting with these abilities, and it escalates to an unpleasant conclusion. The film benefits a lot from great child performances (the central little "villain" was really cool), from the unpleasant atmosphere, and there are some shocking scenes (the cat scene is the highlight, but the broken leg is nice to look at). The kids are definitely not as innocent as they look and can be really mean to the people around them. A good film that kept my attention despite its longer running time. Weaker characters will find it harder to digest. Almost a must for fans of Nordic cinema. Story 4/5, Action 2/5, Humour 0/5, Violence 3/5, Fun 3/5 Music 3/5, Visuals 4/5, Atmosphere 4/5, Suspense 3/5, Emotions 3/5, Actors 4/5. 7.5/10. ()
