Occupied France, 1942. Gilles (Nahuel Pérez Biscayart) is arrested by SS soldiers alongside other Jews and sent to a camp in Germany. He narrowly avoids sudden execution by swearing to the guards that he is not Jewish, but Persian. This lie temporarily saves him, but Gilles gets assigned a life-or-death mission: to teach Farsi to Head of Camp Koch (Lars Eidinger), who dreams of opening a restaurant in Iran once the war is over. English Countless movies have been made about the fate of Jews in occupied Europe and the Holocaust, but this co-production about wartime France, Persian Lessons, is a little different. Maybe it’s the rather unusual story and but also it’s that they don’t try to move the viewer at all costs, although at the end some tears will probably fall. The excellent performances of Nahuel Pérez Biscayart and Lars Eidinger are certainly worth noting, with the latter slowly but surely becoming one of my favorite actors. I would also like to highlight the music, which is really beautiful and fits the plot perfectly. (80%) ()
