Screenwriter Halina Pawlovská sets this autobiographic comedy in the period between the 1968 Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia and the post-Velvet Revolution 'taste of freedom'. One prominent plot line centers on family problems involving the ridiculous figure of the comically despotic Ukrainian father.
