Part Three finds Musashi reflecting on his place in the world after winning sixty duels and becoming the stuff of legend across Japan. His young enemy, Kojiro, continues to pursue him, however. While Musashi regrets the death he has caused during his travels and intends to become a farmer, Kojiro thirsts for more and learns the way of the Shogun. The two enemies finally get the chance to meet and settle their score on the small island of Ganryu. (official distributor synopsis)

Inagaki at last realized what a treasure he had in Mifune, and then exploited it to the full. Without his charismatic “just one look and you know I am God" aura, scenes like the one with the flies would have been hard to take seriously (despite a hint of humor) and not like a bad joke. However, the ending is the most important part, especially the finale on the island which makes the occasionally not so entertaining approx. three hundred minutes preceding it well worth watching. ()
