Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Encanto, with original songs by award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, tells the tale of the Madrigals, an extraordinary family living in a magical house in the Colombian mountains. But when Mirabel, the only ordinary family member, discovers the magic surrounding their home is in danger, she may be her family’s last hope. (Disney / Buena Vista)

English The Madrigals have been living for generations in a magical house in the middle of the jungle. Each of them has superhuman abilities thanks to magic, except for Mirabel. But it is she, a completely ordinary girl, who will have to save the family because the magic is weakening. Disney delivers a beautifully looking fairytale with a nice Latin atmosphere and a likeable heroine, but the story, which at certain moments unexpectedly turns dark, undermines it. And I'm not entirely sure if the main problem and its solution are suitable topics for the youngest viewers, though maybe I'm just underestimating them. ()

English An enjoyable Disney fairy tale that will neither disappoint nor offend. The good animation is par for the course, and the theme of an enchanted place called Encanto where every child in the family has a unique gift is fine, it's just a shame that no one uses their abilities properly. I missed a bit more menace, and at the same time the humour is surprisingly absent altogether. Surprisingly, the best part of the film is the music. Personally, I prefer the more action-packed stuff in the vein of Raya and the Last Dragon and The Mitchells vs. the Machines, this one seemed more for the girls and of course the little ones. 6/10. English A splendidly merry cartoon, full of songs, which slowly turns into a gloomy family drama about unreal expectations and fear of failure. The fairytale place, the building (with special powers) and the family are the both lure and the catalyst of the main conflict. The unexpectedly adult (for a Disney movie) way the topics are introduced doesn’t discourage kids from watching; in fact it seems quite the opposite. The choreography for some of the songs is just fantastic! ()

English The 60th feature-length Disney film. An experience identical to visiting the Colombian embassy. This time, a fully-fledged Disney movie did not emerge, but rather a platform for all those concurrent outputs. A rich soundtrack, attractions at Disneyland, books, media, dolls... But it is all so submerged in that specific culture that global comprehensibility has been forgotten. ()

English Encanto mixes a fairy-tale Disney atmosphere with current themes and a look at (not only) the world of movies, in which the creators focus on the political correctness and multi-cultural character of their products, which may not be to everyone's liking. After watching the latest Disney film, I was a little embarrassed about the final rating. On the one hand, Encanto could have been funnier, more playful and deeper (Inside Out and the culturally close Coco set the bar far too high, alas), but on the other hand, the film cannot be denied a sincere (if slightly moralistic and elemental) story about the importance of family and deciding one's own destiny by oneself, and in this case the film focused particularly on the female characters. From an audiovisual point of view, it was a feast for the eyes - whether it was the colourful animation or the pleasant soundtrack with nice dance numbers. Three and a quarter stars! ()
