Paris is a quiet little country town... but the unsuspecting motorist who turns off the main highway, attracted by a barrage of inviting signs, will soon discover that the road to Paris is a DEATH TRAP! The town's residents live off road accidents. They snare motorists, dispose of the dead and conduct medical experiments on the injured. Paris lives off cars - spare parts are their currency - however, the source of their livelihood is about to turn against them. The cars will have their revenge. The Cars That Ate Paris was Peter Weir's first major feature film. It is arguably his most striking, offbeat and original work. It also contains one of the most memorable performances by veteran Australian actor, Judy Morris. (Umbrella Entertainment)

English Film, for which the adjective "special" fits best. It balances on the edge of several genres and raises many expectations, which it fails to fulfill. The problem lies both in the script and in the directorial inexperience of the otherwise excellent Weir. Overall impression: 55%. ()
