"Rich" Richardson (Clark Gable) is a hard-driving, dedicated submarine officer with a single-mindedpurposeto seek out and smash the Japanese destroyer he believes sank his former ship. Given a new command, Richardson drills his men to the point of mutiny as he relentlessly trains them for the battle ahead. English A pretty good film with solid visual effects that don't look ridiculous even after 53 years, a suspenseful atmosphere and a superb Gable-Lancaster duo, with the former outshining the latter. If only the story was a bit better. Three and a half stars. (05/14/2011)
