The Tax Collector (2020)

English We waited so long for the new Ayer movie, but all for nothing. This trivial story of a kind gangster who gets into problems is often unintentionally funny. Talking about honor and the family doesn’t mix well with threats and torture. In terms of acting, it’s a disaster and is reminiscent of a Mexican telenovella. The only one with any role to play is Shia, but even here it would have been easier to take him seriously if he had started out cutting off a few fingers and kneecapping somebody. The director can’t get the flashbacks to work, instead just confusing things for the viewer. Did he edit out the torture scenes? Did he go soft? This time, it’s just bad, homey.

Marriage Story (2019)

English It's better to watch this before midnight. Even so, it’s a very well filmed and acted drama about a relationship falling apart, demonstrating the gradual disintegration of family values. In the end, I had a feeling that divorce isn’t so bad after all, that life goes on and everyone involved wins something out of it, either a lesson or a double Halloween. And that isn’t good from a moral point of view. Because, all said, everybody lost.

6 Days to Air: The Making of South Park (2011) (TV movie)

English A nerve racking week and spurts of pure creativity. This glimpse behind the scenes of South Park is as entertaining as the series itself. Certain things are surprising, some expected. Looking back at the innocence of the first season shows just how far this series has come since its beginnings.

The Umbrella Academy - Season 2 (2020) (season)

English The comic book is more mad-cap and frequently better than the series, though on the other hand, the TC adaptation is easier to understand. Originally, I didn’t expect it to be Dallas, because they gave away some of the plot in the first season, but the filmmakers improvised a little and it works just great, though saving JFK was a little far-fetched and the comic book handled the scene a little better. The open ending is very similar to the end of episode 3, again skipping the subplot with Hotel Oblivion. The black-lesbian-gay subplot is just there to string out the story, but it’s bearable. It’s a bit of a hash, but with very high-quality beef. Bring on the french fries!

The Villainess (2017)

English A South Korean Nikita. Asian emotional escalation meets spectacular bloody action. Although the initial bloodbath and frenetic motorbike chase set the bar so high that the climax in the bus can’t surpass then, Byung-gil Jung convinced me that Mr. Wick still has a lot to learn. It's a shame about the overwrought narration, which is a bit confusing at first.

Entourage (2015)

English Everything is terribly speeded up and I bet that lots of scenes ended up on the cutting room floor so that this wouldn’t look like just another season of the series, but a two-hour movie. Despite that, this epilogue is a functional, but not excellent summary of the series. If you haven’t seen the series, you have no chance of making sense of it.

Entourage - Season 8 (2011) (season)

English The ending is a hard-hitting tearjerker (reading a script for the Hallmark channel) and a beautiful conclusion.

Entourage - Season 7 (2010) (season)

English A stuntman and a junkie. Sasha Grey as a girlfriend and a fist bump from Eminem. A self-destructive streak that is most rewarding for Vinny and Ari. An excellent drama that makes the most of its potential.

Entourage - Season 6 (2009) (season)

English Wonder Woman as a doll at the premiere of the new Scorsese? Great. Damon and Bono as check chasers for hungry kids? Great series.

Entourage - Season 5 (2008) (season)

English The somber tone is fitting for the series. Vinny without work is like a mill without water and when there is work it goes from ten to five. Excellent cameos and the last one from Marty is like a balm for the soul.
