Something in the Rain (2018) (series)

English I could tell that since Ye-jin Son had accepted the role, it wouldn't be subpar; but to be honest, I'm not really into these noona-dongsaeng relationships. That's why I didn't even have very high expectations. Except that this one is different, this is the exception that will once again make me put my prejudices behind me next time. Here, the age difference (from the viewer's perspective) is the only good thing, and the main character is no whiner who latched onto an older woman because he got sick of younger girls. Though I’m surprised to say it, in an imaginary ranking of best-looking couples, these two would rate very, very high for me. Another benefit of the series is that it deals with discrimination and abuse of women at work. This is a topic that needs to be broached, so I applaud that as well. I also want to praise the original choice of soundtrack, which plays a big role here, especially in the longer shots, and adds nicely to the atmosphere.

I'm Not a Robot (2017) (series)

English God, I'm at it again. When I'm watching, I'm grinning like a fool and eating it up with all my senses; when I'm not watching, I'm singing the soundtrack or laughing out of nowhere at a line I just remembered. And there were plenty such lines and funny situations, and cute and incredibly naive ones too. Anyway, the whole thing was awfully cute, and Aji 3 is now my favorite robot, not counting the Star Wars ones, of course. I'm not the least bit eager to say goodbye to this lovable bunch. 5 stars.

Goblin (2016) (series)

English I think Goblin has everything it needs to be a more than a good series. A deep story, atmosphere, nice soundtrack, two beautiful love stories, and as a bonus a relationship between two slightly childish guys who hate and adore each other at the same time. I would have been uncritically excited and in love if it wasn't for the unnecessarily complicated ending. Honestly, I've never understood why Koreans have such a penchant for waiting so long for someone. And there was too much of it here. A strong 4 stars.

Strong Girl Bong-soon (2017) (series)

English So let's recap. A great main character in the lead, who is (almost) unruffled by anything. I didn't find the male cast that believable at first, but I realized I was wrong after the first few episodes (I love Hyung-sik, haha). The main role here was definitely the love story, and it was super cute and made me giggle and cry at the same time every now and then. I'd say the creators avoided a lot of the usual clichés, at least when it comes to the main characters' relationship. As a viewer, I pretty much got what I wanted and didn't have to roll my eyes at silly misunderstandings and other petty things. Even someone finally got the timing of the first kiss. Plus, they did a nice job – except for maybe two episodes – of lightening the dramatic moments with decent humor. I admire how they were able to naturally jump from one genre to another without it falling apart as a whole. On the contrary, it felt natural, and I say that despite the fact that I found myself almost on edge at one point, grinning like a lunatic and then covering my eyes and not even breathing with the suspense. I just hope I don't come across anything starring Won-hae Kim (the gangster with no teeth and the crazy gay superior) for a while now. I'm just not Korean enough to understand those two roles of his (and I doubt I ever will be).

Midas (2011) (series)

English I struggled with Midas for a long time. And that's because the show didn't sit with me in multiple ways. Content-wise, it was uninteresting to me. I can't say there was nothing going on; on the contrary, there was always something going on, and their game soon started to be distressing. I also didn't like the cinematography, the music, most of the supporting characters, and even the main characters overall. But what surprised me the most was that even Hyeok Jang can do the kind of acting that keeps me from going weak in the knees over him. I'm honestly shocked by that. For the few strong moments at the beginning, I’m giving it 2.5 stars

The Lucky One (2012)

English Considering how long I've been eyeing this movie, I'm pretty disappointed after watching it. The story is pretty lame, with almost no plot and no heartfelt drama either. I don't mind Zac Efron as an actor, but I'm not sure he was the right man for the role.

Step (2017)

English When someone can dance, it's beautiful. And these girls have the passion to really go places. I enjoyed their training and their performances. Worse was when their private problems and the outpourings of their ever-crying mothers moved to the foreground. Then you never know if they weren’t perhaps coerced into making the show, when they burst into tears at any question about their daughters.

Mood of the Day (2016)

English I'm writing a review again after a long time, because this beautiful film deserves at least a few words of praise. It's a romance like crazy, but if you're one of those people who never get tired of watching love win, you'll probably melt as you watch it the way I did. There's a hell of a spark between the couple of Moon and Yoo, and their courtship is fun from the very beginning. Add to that some nice music, a joke here and there, and most importantly a bunch of sweet gestures and everything that goes with a proper tearjerker. 4.5 stars.

Modern Farmer (2014) (series)

English Yeah, so this was without hesitation the craziest Korean series I've seen so far. I don't know of any other where the humor is up to this level. It's actually one big crazy joke where no one and nothing can be taken seriously. The actors went all out and my diaphragm got a good workout at times. My romantic self was a little less satisfied. Am I the only one who thinks they could easily have added a little more kissing and sweet encounters? Also, too bad about the rush at the end, it spoiled the overall impression a bit for me. But it doesn't change the fact that I had fun and I'll miss the whole village very much. A strong 4 stars.

Hello Monster (2015) (series)

English I'm completely derailed again, so I don't know if my review will make sense. Well, let's give it a shot... Yes, I know. If the investigation team had acted like this in real life, there would probably be empty prisons and most of the officers would no longer be alive. But so what? This isn't a documentary about catching criminals, it's something else. If you show a little (enough) tolerance in that regard, then you'll experience perfect thrills from start to finish, full of touching fates, perfect psychos, and plot twists. There are a lot of strong individuals among the characters who will make sure you can't just tear yourself away. In-guk Seo is one big surprise for me, and I really hope he finds more fans here over time. It's a fact that I was a little jealous of Na-ra Jang at times. If it wasn't for the ending, it would have been spotless for me. While I would be happy with a similar resolution elsewhere, here I just can't help but be slightly disappointed. Still, it's the best I've seen so far this year. Those who liked Gapdong should definitely not miss Remember You. //// I’ve let it sit for a bit and now I have to admit that they got the ending right. It was great, all the way through.
