Runway Cop (2012)

English I never expected to say this, but seeing Ji-hwan in those first few minutes was agony for me. I almost fell out of love. Luckily Yoo-ri put everything back together and I was able to enjoy my favorite character in all his glory. And now for the movie... Honestly, it's not that great. Or yeah, at the end, during the fashion show, I teared up slightly, but I'm not exactly sure how much of that is due to the script. In short, I've seen better movies from the modeling world. And it's also below average as a comedy. 3 stars.

Burnt (2015)

English The environment of Michelin restaurants interests me, so it was nice to get a glimpse of the movie version of it. More than the story – because it was pretty simple – I was of course intrigued by the goodies the chefs created on the plate. Shocking, and perfectly acted, were the hysterical scenes Bradley performed while doing so. Although I don't know if I would have enjoyed it had I seen the stress behind it. A weaker 4 stars, and I admit that the food is playing a big part in my rating.

The Fairy Tales for Ema (2016)

English Voilà, another treasure among Czech films has arrived. It came unexpectedly, without much advertising, but with an excellent and touching story and a trio of actors who certainly don't mess it up. Aňa, Ondřej, and Ema in a film that moves you... and more than just casually. The Fairy Tales for Ema were just right. Watch it, you'll be surprised. For real.

I Married a Dumbass (2016)

English A very simple film with a simple plot that doesn't blow a hole in the world, but sets the stage for some pretty good stuff. The only problem for me was that I didn't like the lead actress very much. Otherwise, I would have rated it one star better. 2.5 stars.

Stuck with a Perfect Woman (2016)

English With this movie, a lot depends on whether you like Petra Hřebíčková. Because while Ondra has a lot of space here (and he's good), it's more her film. She's the one talking, laughing, hysterical... she just rocks. And the story isn't boring either: you snicker sometimes, laugh sometimes at the typical, different features of men and women, and finally leave the cinema with a pleasant feeling, without chaos in the head. A Czech romance that is definitely worth watching. 3.5 stars.

Nerve (2016)

English This is one of those films where I don't understand why it's so terribly underrated. After all, how else should a thriller look these days? It's got incredible pacing, more suspense than ten good horror movies combined, a likable main character and a handsome lead, so what more could you ask for? I’ve cooled off a bit, but it took a lot for me not to bump Nerve into my top ten list the second I got out of the theater. I’m sure I still won't be able to hold back after the next viewing because it's awesome!

Train to Busan (2016)

English Maybe zombies aren't so boring after all? It's definitely a win here for me that the filmmakers focused purely on action, with a dash of emotion of course, it wouldn't have worked without it. No complicated rules, no hero trying to save the world, no vaccines. Just a train going to Busan and a few passengers on it. The rest is simple.... Don't get bitten and survive. A strong 4 stars.

The Wailing (2016)

English The Wailing definitely had the makings of an excellent film. The atmosphere, the village, the cast, a few funny moments in the beginning, and the odd case that the viewer is actually looking forward to solving. But the more supernatural it started to get, the more my hope for a solid script diminished. Then the red eyes, the shamans start showing up, and it ends up being a bit of a nonsensical mishmash. At least they managed to keep the suspense up. 3 stars.

Underworld: Blood Wars (2016)

English My first – and probably last – Underworld. Because apart from the beautiful Prague and Selene, who I just have to admire even as a woman, there wasn't really anything to watch. The film is completely lacking in any kind of suspense, so it was not at all easy to keep my mind on the film. I wouldn't even rate the action scenes as above average. In short, if I wasn't in the theater I probably wouldn't have watched it. 1.5 stars

Let's Drink (2016) (series)

English It's a bit of a tradition with tvN series that after the first episode I doubt if I'll be entertained by them. And it's an even bigger tradition that I almost always end up enjoying them. It couldn't have been any different here. I mean, these characters were pretty addictive. And that's even though, for example, the main character had an incredibly awful personality to begin with. It just played perfectly into the traditional Korean love story about Prince Charming and Cinderella, which I never get tired of. The trio of student friends, on the other hand, performed a kind of Korean "Little Bang Theory" for a few episodes. If there's one thing I love in a TV show, it's allusions to older movies and TV shows, and there were plenty of them here. The ones on Signal, Oh Hae Young, or W. If you want an everyday romance and a heap of fun to go with it, jump on in. And if you're a food lover like me, I recommend watching the series as soon as possible. Because otherwise, weight gain is guaranteed. The cinematography here is so incredibly cuddly with the food that it's impossible to resist. Yum, that was good. 4.5 stars.
