The Human Beast (1938)

English The story itself is good; after all, it's essentially a French classic, but in this rendition, it's excellent mainly due to the actors who have come together for it. Jean Gabin is one of the best French actors, and this is a film that proves it quite nicely. Even though it may seem like an ordinary railroad tale at first glance, it's the human element that takes center stage here.

The Green Beautiful (1996)

English Sure, the comedy has a lot of ecological themes and tries to convey some messages, but on the other hand, there are great funny moments here that genuinely entertained me. Plus, you see Marion Cotillard in one of her first roles and it suits her beautifully. Towards the end, it loses its charm a bit, and the fun fades into the background, but the beginning is a great example of French comedy.

The Circle (2017)

English The film has an incredibly good theme, but there were simply too many elements here that bothered me and spoiled the overall experience. First and foremost it was the character of Emma Watson, who I just didn't find good, her development odd, and her motivations lacking. Then there was also the smallness of the theme, which seemed to have only local impacts, not global ones, with just a few hints. But it will make you think, a lot. And that is a good thing.

The Trap (2014)

English When one delves a bit deeper into Indian cinema, they pleasantly discover that it's not just Bollywood blockbusters; other films are often more interesting and unexpectedly different in their approach. Like this adaptation of Chekhov in the present day, in India, and with lots of ducks.

The Beautiful Person (2008)

English It's a coming-of-age film about how hard it is, but it's all delivered in such a starkly depressing way that you can see where it's going. And because the characters aren't particularly great, not even in terms of acting, you won't engage with this film and won't admire it for being realistic and contemporary. Because it's not.

La Bamba (1987)

English The story itself is interesting and very sad. If you look at how old Valens was when he died - just seventeen years old. A rising star... Buddy Holly's the same story, just a few years older. How would the music have sounded if their lives hadn't ended? Well, we definitely wouldn't have the "American Pie" song. Although it's a strong story, the execution felt rather lackluster to me.

Colossal (2016)

English For me, this is one of the most original films I've seen, where the fusion of relational and personal drama with a kaiju film is so incredible, at least in this interpretation, that I just kept wondering if these particular actors are actually in it. But thanks to them, it's brilliantly done and the acting is superb. Excellent film.

Horror Story (2013)

English If you expect an original horror from Horror Story, you will definitely be disappointed. However, if you expect a good Indian horror from it, you will be pleasantly surprised. The actors here are fine, the plot is simple, but you get from it what the theme demands. This is a job well done, and thanks to the Indians it has a touch of exotic setting and yet it works. And there are scenes that will get you. Maybe even the music you hear in them.

Evil Bong II: King Bong (2009)

English Evil Bong 2: King Bong goes along with the spirit of the first installment, and indeed the other Band films he presents each year. It's cheap, it's sometimes a bit fun, and it's undemanding. Not just for the audience, but probably also for the filming itself. This time Charles did not invite his brother or anyone else in the family to the shoot. Admittedly, it probably wouldn't do much good for the cause.

Alien Implant: The Hunted Must Become the Hunter (2017)

English Alien Implant: The Hunted Must Become the Hunter is an example of the fact that nowadays it is simply possible for anyone to make movies. On one hand, that's good; it could potentially lead to something unique. But you don't have a lot of options on a shoestring budget, so it takes something to blow the audience away. Unfortunately, Daniel Falicki did nothing of the sort.
