The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021) (series)

English I was skeptical about WandaVision because it literally made me suffer from boredom, but thankfully The Falcon and The Winter Soldier already resembles Marvel more and the creators finally realized that Marvel should be action-packed, which this series undoubtedly is. At times, I felt like I was watching a sequel to Captain America, which I consider the best Marvel movie after The Avengers because it stays grounded. So, instead of magic and sci-fi worlds, my favorite martial art and fights on PG-13 get the spotlight, and they are surprisingly solid and sometimes unexpectedly gritty. The development of The Falcon (those who have seen it know) is satisfying, the new Captain America on the scene is cool, the Winter Soldier seemed a bit underutilized, I felt like he almost didn't use his arm at all and kicked more often, but whatever, and Baron Zemo and the visit from Wakanda definitely pleased me. Each episode is action-packed and there aren't so many conversational passages that would make me bored. It's entertaining and nicely shot. Although the villains are weak again (the biggest weakness of Marvel is confirmed here as well), it didn't bother me that much. It's definitely a step forward from Wanda and I hope Loki will blow everyone away! 7/10.

La Chevre (1981)

English Pierre Richard and Gérard Depardieu are a proven comedic duo and it's amazing. An excellent story about clumsy Pierre, who has the task of finding a kidnapped girl who is just as clumsy as he is. Funny situations, two excellent actors, a very cool and entertaining film overall. Even though I didn't roll on the floor laughing, it's a great film. 8/10.

Lung II (2016)

English The skilled Phil Stevens delivers his second piece after the depressive Flowers. It possibly fits into the same universe and is again an unpleasant, hallucinogenic, and dreamlike nightmare, intended only for the most extreme audience with refined taste and twisted desires. The film is dark and silent, so it has a certain artistic dimension, and the plot is presented through symbols, details, and images, so a strong dose of attention, imagination, and reflection is necessary, and I must admit that I enjoyed it. It's like playing a game where you have to put together the whole puzzle yourself. Although you may not receive answers to most questions, the basic storyline is understandable. The main character goes from point A to point A and experiences dark, dreamlike nightmares, possibly the consequences of his dark past. It is one of those films that can be debated because everyone understands it differently and notices something else. The bracelet on his wrist indicates that he is probably a patient who escaped from a mental institution, undoubtedly a lunatic with homicidal tendencies. In addition to the decent camera work and dark imagery, there are creepy scenes that also stand out (rotted skeletons, corpses, and that “Frankenstein creation” with a face sewn together with a penis, buttocks, a vagina, and who knows what else – it's truly an extreme creation that knows no bounds). It is strange and definitely not for everyone, but I found something for myself in it. 7/10.

Top Secret (1984)

English A decent parody with Nazis and likeable Val Kilmer, where the first hour does not bring any big outbreaks of laughter, but the final 20 minutes are awesome, too bad it didn't come earlier. 6.5/10.

Conviction (2019)

English Neil Blomkamp does not mess around. A 4-minute audiovisual and action explosion for the game "Anthem", and it's better than any generic action movie from the USA. 7/10.

Save Ralph (2021)

English A message that even elementary school children know. Relatively interesting, but I don't see a reason to rate it higer. 6/10.

Shadow and Bone (2021) (series)

English This new fantasy series from Netflix is undoubtedly a hit, it is an adaptation of the Grishaverse trilogy, so the fans of the books can be satisfied, but I am still a little disappointed. Although many things are fine, the potential was higher. This is certainly not another Game of Thrones and Witcher . I liked the quite interesting and captivating plot, which is at times a bit disorienting, but it has a decent pace and at least the twist in episode 5 is great. The casting is also good, I liked Ben Barnes from The Punisher, the main character reminded me a bit of Katniss from Hunger Games and the trio of supporting characters is great, especially the gunslinger Jesper, who deserves more screen time, but his gun tricks were fantastic. Visually, the series is also attractive, you can see the money and all eight episodes can be easily watched. However, what the audience expects from the fantasy genre did not meet my satisfaction. I will have to be stricter, but the creators should realize that they are making fantasy, not drama, so I expected action and unfortunately I didn't get much of it. Most action scenes are at most three minutes long and are usually well shot, so it is even more disappointing that the creators somehow avoided them. I was still willing to overlook it if they served us at least an epic finale. With ghouls, magicians, the royal army, where is the promised battle after seven hours? It's not happening, they are going for a more intimate approach and considering the potential, it really disappoints me. I am always surprised why in every fantasy film or series, where there are magicians, they manage to have basic spells like fireballs and even healing abilities. There are countless possibilities for spells and I wonder why no one has thought of adding a little more excitement to it. Overall, I do not regret watching it, I was not bored, the characters are well developed and if something epic happens in season 2, I will be more generous. I am a little surprised by the absence of erotic scenes, they are rarely seen nowadays. Young teenagers and book fans can give it a try. 6.5/10.

Sweet River (2020)

English After Saint Maud and The Night, I didn't expect to encounter an even slower and more boring film this year, but we have a winner. Australia, following the example of The Dry, serves an extremely slow film (if I were to compare it to a car, it wouldn't even start in the parking lot). Not a single interesting scene in 100 minutes, mostly filmed in darkness with uninteresting actors and no intriguing plot twist. It was torture and suffering to endure this film, unfortunately. 2/10.

Mortal Kombat (2021)

English Martial arts and gore fans get over here! Everyone who gave The Father five stars, get the fuck out! The solid and anticipated reboot of Mortal Kombat is a successful debut and a respectable action genre film that slightly disappoints in a few aspects, but still serves as solid fan service and unquestionably belongs to the better films released this year. On the acting side, Joe Taslim stands out in the role of Sub-Zero, stealing all the scenes for himself, and Josh Lawson delights as Kano, possibly the biggest badass in the last ten years. This guy stole the whole show for himself, and his wisecracks had me in stitches multiple times!! As for the fights themselves, the choreography could have been more elaborate, but fortunately, the creators indulged in some nice fatalities (because that's what MK is all about) with properly utilized gore (five stars for that!). The rest of the characters don't stand out much, and the plot is of course silly (it's based on the game!!), but fans of PG 13 nonsense, musicals, and slow, uninteresting dramas will obviously suffer. The ending is a complete ball of nerves, the Sub-Zero-Scorpion duel was excellent. Overall, I had a great time, enjoyed the action, the humour, and the visuals, the music is also decent, so I will definitely revisit this film multiple times in the future. In simple terms, five stars for the gore, four stars for the fights, three stars for the plot and characters. Those who feel the need to find faults will find them. 8/10.
